The referenced standard for drive motor systems for electric vehicles GB/T 18488-2024 Drive Motor Systems for Electric Vehicles (hereinafter referred to as the "new standard") was released and implemented on May 28, 2024. It replaces GB/T 18488.1-2015 Part 1: Technical Conditions for Motors and Their Controllers for Electric Vehicles and GB/T 18488.2-2015 Part 2: Test Methods for Motors and Their Controllers for Electric Vehicles (hereinafter referred to as the "old standards").
CQC has revised the Safety Certification Rules for Drive Motor Systems of Electric Vehicles (CQC11-469122-2025) related to this standard, involving the sub category number: 006012. The main revised contents of the certification rules and the relevant requirements for implementing the new standards and certification rules are hereby notified as follows:
I. Main Revised Contents of the Certification Rules
1. Expressive modifications to the rules (Chapters 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13);
2. Modification of the logo style;
3. The standard GB/T 18488-2024 replaces the standards GB/T 18488.1-2015 and GB/T 18488.2-2015;
4. Modification of the number of samples to be sent in the sample sending principle;
5. Modification of the validity period of the certification certificate, from permanent validity to 5 years;
6. Modification of the certification basis standards in Appendix 1;
7. Adjustment of the sentences and format in the document part.
II. Requirements for Implementing the New Standards and Certification Rules
1. From the date of release of this notice, enterprises shall adopt the new version of the standard for certification implementation; CQC will issue certificates in accordance with the new version of the standard, and will no longer issue old-standard certificates.
2. For products certified under the old standards, certificate holders may apply to CQC for transition to new-standard certificates. CQC will develop a transition plan based on: the status-quo of the enterprises’s certification, applicable certification rules, and new standard requirements per TC resolutions.
3. The transition to new-standard certificates must be completed by January 17, 2026. Failure to transition by this deadline will result in suspension of old-standard certificates by CQC. Certificates not transitioned by April 16, 2026 will be revoked by CQC.
4. For the certified products that have been manufactured, put into the market, and are no longer produced before the date of release of this notice, there is no need to carry out certificate conversion.
5. All accredited testing bodies must promptly notify CQC of their new-standard testing capabilities, including: CMA qualification scope, and CNAS accreditation scope (as applicable).
