Recently, the national standard "Technical Specification at the project level for assessment of greenhouse gas emission reduction- Greenhouse gas and wastewater treatment and waste Recycle" (GB/T 44915-2024), the development of which led by the China Quality Certification Centre (CQC), was officially released. This standard will come into effect on June 1, 2025.

The standard provides standardized procedures for assessing greenhouse gas emission reductions in five types of projects: sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) emission reduction in power grids, substitution of SF6 with other protective gases in magnesium metal casting processes, use of biomass waste as raw materials, catalytic decomposition of N2O in ammonia oxidation furnaces of nitric acid production enterprises, and industrial wastewater treatment. It covers multiple key aspects such as determination of accounting boundaries, identification of emission sources, setting of baseline scenarios, calculation of emission reductions, monitoring, and data quality management, ensuring the assessment process scientific and transparent.

The release of this standard marks a significant step forward in the standardization in the field of greenhouse gas emission reduction in China, particularly in waste gas, wastewater treatment, and waste residue recycling. It is of great importance for promoting green and low-carbon development in related industries, improving resource utilization efficiency, and facilitating sustainable development.

In the future, CQC will continue to implement the national "dual carbon" strategic goals and related actions, actively participate in standardization work in the green and low-carbon field by combining international advanced experience with domestic actual needs, further promote low-carbon technology innovation and industrial upgrading, and provide strong support for China to achieve its carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals.
