The EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is an environmental policy launched by the European Union to address climate change. Its aim is to reduce carbon leakage (where companies move production to countries with lower carbon emission standards to avoid emission restrictions) and promote global emission reduction targets. The core of the mechanism is to impose carbon emission fees on high-carbon products imported into the EU (such as steel, cement, aluminum, etc.) to safeguard the competitiveness of EU businesses in the face of climate policies.
According to CBAM regulations, importers must declare the carbon emissions of their products to EU authorities and pay the corresponding fees, while carbon emissions verification will be carried out by accredited third-party organizations. This move is intended to encourage other countries to reduce carbon emissions during the production process and to drive global climate action.
